Arrow Group Vice President & Senior Advisor Rosanna Catalano is helping bring an extraordinary family story of courage and resilience to the screen through Liberata, a documentary inspired by the remarkable actions of her grandmother during World War II.
Featured recently in the Tallahassee Democrat, the film chronicles the story of Liberata Catalano, who risked her life in rural Italy to shelter two escaped American prisoners of war from Nazi forces. With the help of her young twin sons, Remo and Romolo, Liberata hid the soldiers in caves throughout the mountainous Abruzzo region, providing food and protection until they could safely return home.
Catalano is producing the documentary alongside her daughter and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker. The project combines family history, historical research, and personal interviews, including previously recorded recollections from Catalano's father, Remo, who participated in the rescue efforts as a child.
"This film is about family, sacrifice, courage, and the bonds that can endure across generations," Catalano told the Tallahassee Democrat. "My family has carried this story for decades, and we are proud to help bring it to a wider audience so that Liberata's courage, my father's memories, and the legacy of the Allied soldiers she helped are never forgotten."
Liberata is expected to be completed in late summer 2026 and submitted for film festival consideration.
