Gunster, one of Florida's oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce that William J. Schifino, Jr. has been elected President of the Florida Supreme Court Historical Society.
Schifino was elected by the Society's Board of Trustees at the Florida Bar Annual Convention and will serve a one-year term from July 2026 to June 2027. Since the Society's founding in 1977, Schifino is the 12th Past President of The Florida Bar to serve in the role.
Schifino has been an active member of the Society since his election to its board of trustees in 2019. During that time, he has served in numerous leadership roles, including as the Society's treasurer and as its 2nd and 1st vice president. He has also served as chair of the Budget and Finance Committee, as a member of the Executive and Nomination Committees, and as a member of the Long-Range Planning Committee.
Schifino is a board-certified specialist in business litigation and serves on Gunster's board of directors. He previously served as president of The Florida Bar and presently serves on the State of Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission. In 2018, Schifino was selected by then-Senate President Joe Negron to serve on the Florida Constitution Revision Commission, one of 37 commissioners responsible for studying and researching the Constitution and making recommendations to revise it. As a member of the City of Tampa Charter Review Advisory Commission and the Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce board, Schifino collaborates with local business leaders to shape the Tampa Bay business community.
