At 2026 Legalweek, Gunster's Amy Sellars participated in a panel discussion exploring how artificial intelligence could impact law firms and legal departments. The panel featured a thoughtful discussion that included a variety of opinions on the importance of human judgment in legal matters.
Amy noted that AI has made legal knowledge more accessible to people outside the legal industry. "There is a democratization happening," Sellars said. "That changes the equation a lot." Inside the legal industry, Sellars observed that AI is disrupting the traditional relationship between in-house teams and outside counsel. If implemented correctly, she said AI could improve that relationship, noting that in-house teams could use the technology to handle some legal tasks themselves. Sellars also emphasized that outside counsel have a responsibility to guide legal departments on their AI journeys.
