Combining experience gained through 25 years teaching federal income tax law at the nation’s leading law schools, his role as Professor in Residence at the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, and as a practicing tax lawyer, Gregg possesses an extraordinary command of the tax laws grounded in both practice and theory with firsthand knowledge in how the IRS interprets, applies and enforces tax rules. This skillset equips him to anticipate audit positions, evaluate litigation risk, and structure transactions and planning strategies to withstand scrutiny in today’s increasingly complex and enforcement-driven tax environment.

Since 2024, Gregg has been a professor of practice in the New York University School of Law’s top-ranked graduate tax program, where he teaches a variety of tax courses. Before joining NYU’s faculty, he had been a tenured law professor at a number of law schools, including the University of Georgia, the University of North Carolina, and Florida State University.

Gregg’s deep technical tax knowledge and background help him to engage opposing counsel, the IRS and other government stakeholders and enable him to deliver sophisticated, defensible tax solutions for clients facing complex and high-stakes tax issues.

Gregg has served as a lawyer, consultant, and expert witness in a variety of tax-related matters. He has considerable experience in corporate and partnership taxation, choice of entity planning, taxation of executive compensation, nonqualified deferred-compensation plans and equity compensation, the tax treatment of private equity, venture capital and hedge funds, tax issues relating to divorce and the taxation of litigation settlements and recoveries.

Regarded as an authority in his field, Gregg is a sought-after commentator on tax issues. He has written extensively on tax-related topics for leading academic law reviews, professional tax publications and bar journals. He is often quoted on tax matters in popular press publications, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, USA Today and Financial Times. Gregg is also a frequent presenter on various tax topics at law school conferences and colloquia and at continuing legal education events sponsored by the American Bar Association, the Florida Tax Institute, the Southern Federal Tax Institute and the Palm Beach Tax Institute.

Gregg is a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel, a professional association of peer-elected tax attorneys recognized for their exceptional dedication, commitment and accomplishments related to the practice of tax law in the United States.
