MIAMI, Fla. (May 19, 2009) – George LeMieux, Chairman of Gunster and former Chief of Staff to Governor Crist, gave an insider’s perspective on the 2009 Florida legislative session and its impact on the local business community at a reception at Gunster law firm’s Miami office at One Biscayne Tower. Nearly 75 people attended, including Israel Consul General Ofer Bavly; British Consul General Keith Allen; Margaret Cullen, Trade Commissioner at the Canadian Consulate; Marshall Criser, president of AT&T Florida; Judge Margarita Esquiroz; Judge Paul Thomas; and Judge Gill Freeman.

“This season’s legislative session produced many successful results on some of our state’s most critical issues, from higher education reform and allocation of federal stimulus dollars to the Seminole gaming compact and property tax reform,” said LeMieux, who is based at the firm’s Tallahassee office and frequently travels among the firm’s eight offices. “We’re at a pivotal time in our state’s history, and the high level of interest from those attending endorses that fact. It’s critical to understand what’s happening with our local and state governments, how it impacts the business community and us individually.”

LeMieux has earned a reputation as a connected resource for CEOs and business professionals to interpret the impact of new legislation in Florida. Earlier this year, he launched the Boardroom Brief , an interactive web site that provides links to all the major daily newspapers in Florida, and highlights some of the most relevant daily headlines for business leaders. There are also links to major national media outlets such as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Associated Press, CNN, Fox News and other TV networks.

LeMieux also writes The LeMieux Report, an electronic newsletter distributed weekly to thousands of business and governmental leaders that offers the top five business, legal and political stories of the week with LeMieux’s “bottom line analysis” of each story.

This was one of three receptions hosted by Gunster. Other locations include West Palm Beach at The Norton Museum of Art and Ft. Lauderdale, which takes place at the Riverside Hotel on May 28.
