To create its annual “Legal Elite” list, Florida Trend asks lawyers to name attorneys they hold in the highest regard or would recommend to others. Voters are also asked to name three up-and-coming attorneys. Only lawyers licensed and practicing in Florida are eligible for selection. The resulting list is exclusive: it represents less than 2 percent of active Florida Bar members.

Now in its 10th year, Florida Trend notes some interesting changes to the lists over the years. According to the publication, in 2004 women made up 12 percent of the list; today, women represent 23 percent. Women also now make up 21 percent of the “Hall of Fame,” Florida Trend says, suggesting women’s emergence into the upper echelons of law in Florida.
