Gunster shareholder Joseph SantoroJoseph Santoro, a leader of Gunster’s labor and employment law practice, presented at the group’s recent seminar for clients and friends of the firm on February 28 at The Breakers. The conference was titled  President Obama’s second-term agenda for employers.

In today’s South Florida Business Journal, Paul Brinkman reports on the conference. According to the article, Santoro indicates some labor and employment issues, such as the Employee Free Choice Act (allowing union formation based on signatures rather than election), were sidetracked in Obama’s first term due to the time and energy the Administration spent on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Employers interested in avoiding Affordable Care Act compliance may find the methods available to do so are not practical, Santoro says in the article.

In addition, Santoro is reported as saying, issues such as ramped up immigration enforcement require careful cooperation with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
