MIAMI — August 29, 2007 — Invited guests, which included prominent local business and government leaders, enjoyed the company of Italian-born baritone singer Patrizio Buanne during a private gathering at Caffe Abbracci in Coral Gables following his performance during the 2007 Sister Cities International (SCI) Conference in South Florida. Hosted by restaurant owner Nino Pernetti and the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF), Buanne’s appearance took place during his 18-city U.S. tour.
“We are grateful to Patrizio for accepting our invitation to join our private meet and greet,” said Arthur J. Furia, who is the regional vice president and a member of the national board of directors of NIAF, and co-chair of the Miami-Dade Steering Committee for SCI. “Inspired by the great crooners of yesteryear, Patrizio harks back to a time when a man would not dream of singing onstage in anything less than a suit, shoes polished, clean-shaven, hair neatly brushed, with a dab of cologne behind the ears.”
Among those present were Coral Gables Mayor Don Slesnick, Blue Cross/Blue Shield executive Martha de la Pena Rojas, HSBC Bank executives Richard Bond and Chris White, Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce leadership members including Olga Ramudo, and various members of the South Florida press corps. including Michele Gillen, CBS4 chief investigative reporter, Buanne’s debut album, “The Italian,” reached #10 on the British Pop chart in 2005, and also charted in Australia, where it was certified as double platinum. In October 2006, the 29-year-old singer performed in front of President Bush at the prestigious NIAF gala in Washington, DC.
Buanne is currently on a world tour in support of his second album “Forever Begins Tonight,” a mixture traditional Italian romantic love songs and 1950s/60s Italian standards. He also recorded the football anthem “Stand Up! (Champions Theme)” that was played at the end of all matches in the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
Nestor Rodriguez, Executive Director of Voice for Children, joined Mr. Furia in announcing that Patrizio has agreed to be the keynote entertainment guest of honor at the Voices for Children annual gala being held on February 23, 2008 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami. Buanne began performing in public at the age of eleven, and after winning several talent competitions. His performance for Pope John Paul II and a crowd of 85,000 in Poland led to his first recording contract in 1997. “To listen to Patrizio is to immerse yourself in the soundtrack of a classic Italian world from Federico Fellini, Sophia Loren and Gina Lollabrigida to La Dolce Vita, said Furia who is a shareholder and corporate/international business attorney with Gunster Yoakley & Stewart in Miami.
