About Al Denelsbeck
Al Denelsbeck began pursuing photography early on, spurred by an interest in nature, animals, & art. He admits to not having a particular artistic statement, and instead relies on trying to communicate the fascination of the natural world, as well as simply aiming for the idea of "aesthetically pleasing." At the same time, he works to promote greater awareness of the interactive ecosystem, stressing that our place is within it, rather than trying to shape it to ourselves.
He reports that his work in Florida is as much a learning experience as an opportunity to expand his images. The state plays host to a variety of life that exists practically nowhere else in the country, and he frequently engages in research over the traits and habits of the species that appear in front of his cameras.
He also develops new photographic skills and techniques to portray as much as possible of this research, and enjoys the challenges.
Largely self-taught, he now tries to spare others of that path by teaching both the basics of photography and the specialized techniques of nature & wildlife images, and is developing a new program specifically aimed at children and inexpensive cameras. He stresses that good compositional habits beat equipment hands down, and that freeing the subject from the unimportant parts is probably the best approach anyone should take with their photography.
Finally, he asks that if you read this far, your task is to choose a bit of habitat today and learn what lives there.
