Nation’s growing debt the topic of public forum at USF

The University of South Florida will host a program called “Reducing the deficit and investing in the future: can we do both?

The discussion will include entitlement program reforms, caps on other domestic and defense spending, the recent slowdown in health care spending, promoting economic growth and the significant changes needed to improve the tax code.

Gunster shareholder and Chairman of the Board George S. LeMieux will be a speaker at the forum. LeMieux served as Florida’s 34th senator in the 111th Congress, where he was a member of the Special Committee on Aging. He also previously served as Florida’s deputy attorney general and as the governor’s chief of staff, overseeing all state agencies.

Additional panelists include Jim Davis, a partner with Holland & Knight who served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 10 years; Senior Policy Director Marc Goldwein of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget; and Robert Bixby, executive director of the Concord Coalition.
